Reasons why your washer is moving or shaking:

Shock Absorber:

All the washing machines have a shock absorber attached. The shock absorber basically dampens the tub noises while it moves during the spin cycle. The part is usually attached on the base of the tub. When the shock absorber goes weak, that is the time when your washer moves, shakes, and makes noise as well.

Suspension Spring:

Another reason why your shock absorber may go against your will is due to the springs that may have damaged. When the suspension spring breaks or is damaged, the washer will create more noise and vibrations in the process of spinning.

Snubber Ring and Tub Wear Pads:

Snubber ring is another thing to trace in a washing machine. This ring helps in dampening vibration when the spin cycle is on. Usually, a snubber ring is based at the bottom of the machine and has a cushion in order to give extra support. During extreme situations, sometimes a snubber ring can wear or tear from its metal base.

Tub Strap:

A tub strap is used and fixed in load washers to dampen the load and give a cushion like feeling. Four straps are attached to the tub and there are possibilities that any of the strap may break with time. When these are over stretched or damaged, your washer is likely to shake and create loud noises.

Issues with Levelling Leg:

The levelling legs are attached to the washing machine to provide extra support to level the washer. Certain models come with four headed legs. You must check all the legs to ensure if these are standing firmly. If the washer vibrates or shakes, you must also take a check on the levelling legs.

Other Parts:

Check all the other parts of the machine that you may notice and ensure if everything is working fine. Every part is interconnected and if anything goes wrong it is understandable that your washer will also give issues.

What to do if your washer moves or shakes?

  • You must always unplug your washing machine before beginning with the inspection. It is very essential for you to ensure that you perform the inspection with no electricity running in order to avoid electric shocks.
  • Trace the shock absorbers as per your machine model. You may have to remove these and before that, you may also have to remove the front and rear panels so that you have comfortable access to the absorbers.
  • Check for any damaged, broken, or rusted parts. Also check for any liquid leakages in the machine. Inspect all the parts properly before you begin the spin cycle again. Also check for any loose ends or parts that need a fix.
  • If none of the above is giving issues, then you may have to call for a professional advice. Seek an expert who can inspect your washer well and get to the root of the issue. Check for the warranty that you may have received by your manufacturer and make use of it.
